No room to make the tubes any longer realy (i belive they are solid pieces not telescoping). Usualy in rough seas i will raise myself up just enough so that the periscope isnt going under (a bit of spray is ok). Though this will occasionaly expose the top of your conning tower, this actualy isnt a problem because when your conning tower is exposed its because its in a valley in the waves, and unless hostile ships are realy close they wont be able to see it due to the wave peaks around the conning tower, in reality (not sure about in game) the wave action would also prevent radar detection of the conning tower (again the peaks would block the signal) though it may pick up the scope.

As for which ship you hit, well you have a couple of options, first look for any signs of damage on either, or fire or smoke, second take a listen with your hydrophones and see if either is going slower (or not making any sounds).

I have to say though ive rarely had a problem figuring out which ship i hit, i usualy take a good close look at all ships in the area before firing, i dont let my periscope get washed out constantly. And i know which ship in the line i shot at. If forced to pull down my scope and or dive ill try to track the target with hydrophones.
