John, I think you are at least half-right!
![]() There appear to be two hex files that control the appearance of lightning in the game. EnvSim.act, the file I believe you are referring to, seems to control the graphics associated with lightning flashes and other environmental variables such as sea and sky color, etc. Scene.dat, on the other hand, seems to control the positioning and timing of lightning flashes. Strangely, though, I can't get Silent Editor to open the file, so I can only see it using a Hex editor. I have highlighted the lightning section, but there appears to be only two values that need changing, MinTime and MaxTime. |

I will see if I can edit this file and then test it in a new career during the summer months. Any preference for how frequent you wish the lightning strikes to be?

![]() to tell you the truth, I would say an increase of 5-10%. now, do you think it's a reasonable increase? Thanks a lot for your input! BTW, wouldn't you prefer that I send you the necessary files I use? I have already tweaked files so you don't have to do the same process twice. If that's the case, please let me know which files would you need, because I have no idea of hex editing... ![]() Also, thanks a lot John Pancoast too! You 2 guys have been a wonderful help! ![]() ![]() ![]()

CapZap,
5 - 10 percent? Just a nudge, huh? ![]() The good news is that I have tested changing the file, and at least the game didn't crash. The main effect was an increase in the sound of thunder, but not necessarily many more lightning flashes. It may be that some of the flashes are taking place too far away from the boat to be seen. Unfortunately, lightning flashes in the game don't light up dark clouds as they do in real life. Since the lightning effect is controlled by the scene.dat file, it will affect the last mod installed in JSGME that uses the scene.dat file. Off the top of my head, I know that GWX, NYGM, M.E.P., and possibly other mods use this file, so you will have to work backwards in your activated mods list and find the last mod to change the scene.dat file. Send a copy of that file to me and I will make the required changes and send it back for you to test. As I mentioned earlier, I think I can use SH3 Commander to randomly select different versions of this file to produce thunder storms of different intensity, such as mild, moderate, strong, and fierce. The only problem with this solution is every storm on your patrol will have the same intensity until you save, exit, and run SH3 Commander again. |

SZ, the percentage you mention is fine (20-40%). Now, the SH3 Cmdr part looks also very interesting and I have no problem with that. ![]() CapZap P.S. You have PM, Sir!!! ![]()

One question here : Would it be realistic to be able to hear the thunder with the hydrophone while being submerged ? ...
