Yep, they had another noise maker that was used to confuse acoustic torpedoes.
"Unknown for reason" depth charge noise being picked up by u-boat crews during the Inshore Campaign is mentioned in Stiebler's book on the subject.

Not that it isn't already known, but SH3 has so many things wrong when it comes to convoys/escorts behavior, etc.

True, just a shame that something done correctly in a game done 11 years earlier (AOD) wasn't also done in SH3.

"- u-boats could not remain stationary."

This is why I think the buoyancy mods for SH3 are so good. In real life, trying to stand still would be a good way to sink past crush depth (or gradually rise and breach the surface). Skilled planes-men were crucial. I hope this is modeled in "Wolfpack" and the rest of the crop of up-and-coming Uboat projects
