the trouble is we have finaly figured out how to play like the italians just when the italians are playing very badly---

we keep trying to be too clever about it--there's no substitute for some geezer legging it down the wings and booting it into the box--

all this searching for the "killer" uber clever pass that cuts thru the heart of the defense is fine if you happen to be Argentina or Brazil--but were Cr&p at it--run at the defense get into the box cross or shoot--works every time

Thinking "German": I would not put down my towl on Rooney's sunbed. He definitely is a force of nature.

Hey, guys, let's have a bit of positive. Some things were beginning to come good. Not champaigne stuff yet, but better.

Rooney played well ( given the role he had) and didn't show any signs of being "too tired".

Beckham finally played a dead ball winner.

There were good moves up front and with a bit more luck and sharpness there could have been more goals.

Ecuador ( and for that matter all the other teams England have played) never looked like winning.

England didn't fade in the second half.

It seems to me that Dan here is the best England supporter we've got.

i thought it was englands best game so far, they moved up a gear from there earlier matches but the capacity to improve is really there. given that this wa splayed in a new formation to them (they trained solely on 442 this was 451).

becham had a good 2nd half despite being ill -was physicaly sick shortly after scoring but played on

gerrard provided good support to rooney so the lone striker was abandoned up front.

worse points were both j.cole and lampard having aiming issues, playing for team lampard would have scored about 5 times by now, but every shot so far has just not gone towards goal.

Oh, to be fair, once we got into the swing of things, it wasn't too bad, but like CB said, we're trying too hard so to speak. The first half was, quite frankly, abysmal but in the second half we pulled it together and got the job done.
Ecuador allowed us that chance by not capitulating on the lacklustre performance of the England side during the first half, if they had been someone like Brazil or Germany, we'd have been 2 or 3 nil down by the first whistle playing like that.

Whether this is deliberate or not remains to be seen, could it be that Sven is lulling the rest of the world into a false sense of security, I'd like to think so. I'd like to think that when we come up against an uber-team we'll go on there and we'll play like football is meant to be played.

Christ, listen to me ramble on, and I don't even watch much footie normally...last time I really listened to a match was when Ipswich played...Barnsley I think it was, to get booted up to the Premier League.
