From May 1943 on u-boats didn't carry external torpedoes for various reasons.
If you wish to do this in the game, here's how: 1. Make a copy of the basic.cfg file to work with. Open it with notepad, etc. Found in the game/data/cfg path. 2. Via the edit/find function, search for submarine_ammo. Every type of sub will have a column of this info. for every year it was in service. 3. For whatever sub you wish or all (I.e., I only use TypeVIIs) in the first column of info. immediately under the subs info. heading title, change ForeResExtern and AftResExtern to 0. I.e, the TypeVIIC's heading would read [Submarine_Ammo3]; VIIC. Change the info. directly below this heading title. 4. Then either make a JSGME mod folder with the edited basic.cfg file and activate it in 5/43 or even better, make a date folder in SH3 Commander with a 19430501 title and that way it will automatically be activated at that date via Commander. Viola, no more external torpedoes and it will show as such in the game (i.e., torpedo page, etc.). A similar approach can be done to have only Liberators and Avengers carry the Stiebler patch FIDO torpedoes as was historically done.

John
Very nice. ![]() I never thought of that in all this time. I just did not use them from 43 on as it was to dangerous to attempt to bring them on board because of aircraft. I got caught once by a pair of aircraft at night, and was lucky enough to shot down one and the other flew off after expended its bomb load. Needless to say I got out of Dodge once I had finished with one eel and NEVER did that again. Good hunting, FUBAR295

Thanks Andrew, Bob. Mods like this help my ever decreasing memory capacity.

Yeah, I do this to supplement my JFO! mod. I have several JSGME basic.cfg files set up depending on what type of boat I am using and what year to simulate this. Makes it much easier than trying to remember when I shouldn't be loading torpedoes externally.
