The game could have been even worse I think. Actually, I just tabbed out of the game sinking a Fiji class cruiser in the South Atlantic, launched 3 fish from about 3000 metres away, 1 detonated prematurely but the other two did the job. But it made me think, as apparently in WWII didn't capital ships often run a zig-zag course in unfriendly territory? I think this is one reason why the USS Indiannopolis(?) was sunk by a Japanese submarine later in the war, it was night time and the captain thought that a zig zag was unnecessary. Imagine if capital ships in this game zig-zagged, that would frustrate some of us to no end.

yeah they do zig zag as soon as they detect you, i think that if the zig zagged all the time it would be sooo difficult to attack anything

Which is what I should have typed. Apparently that captain got a little tired of zig-zagging half across the Pacific, with tragic consequences.

I'm pretty sure they were zig-zagging. They didn't change course every five minutes; the legs were longer than that. The Japanese sub just happened to get lucky.

US sub commanders described having a ship or convoy accidentally escape by zigging at just the right moment, and others mentioned having ships they thought would escape suddenly turn right toward them.

When real ships thought a sub was near they didn't weave back and forth like in the game; they turned their tail to the sub and ran.

It wouldn't make a difference to me they still would get sunk,.
What I generally try to do is if a ship zig-zags aim a fish right at her bows and fire she will zig zag for ever and end but she will return to her original position your chances of hitting her are improved dramatically.
