Of course I have no idea really what's going on with your problem.

The only time I've experience somethng similar it seemed to be related to saved careers. My suggestion would be to once again uninstall the lot, make sure there's no part of the SH3 folder left over. Then go into My Documents and move or delete the SH3 save folder you find in there. Reinstall, patch and see what happens. No guarantee it'll make a bit of difference but might be worth a shot.

Also make sure you have the correct 1.4b. The 'Download' version of 1.4b is for a game that was downloaded from one of the specialty sites. If you bought the game on a disc then you need the 'Disc' version of the patch. Also make sure you have the right 'US' or 'European' version.

cool thanks guys i will give the saved game thing a whirl but if ive deleted the registry keys wont that have deleted everything

p.s i thought something was wrong when i saw a lone elco torp boat in the middle of the atlantic

yep SS is right, check the proper download. No, the registry key deletion will not affect the save game folder in My Documents.

ok i took ya advice managed to reinstall and get the latest patch (the correct version)all was going well for bout ohhh 2hrs sank like 7 class c destroyers numerous c2 cargos and the odd small tanker, i was just making my escape coz there were another 2 destroyers after me an i run out of torps and guess wot? yup straight back to desktop grrrrrr im begining to give up now
p.s i run, xp 1.5gb ram p3 processor ati x700 card

What kind of sound card? I ask because I only have onboard sound and I get occassional crashes in mid-battle. I always save every time I torpedo a ship, just in case. I don't know if that's your problem, but it sure is mine.

its a possibility i suppose i dont have onboard sound but i did only pay like £15 for my sound card
