Think the problem through, you've been in this situation before:

Your Significant Other appears in the room while you were doing something important, such as sending positive vibes to the Dodgers, holding two dresses and says, "Which one makes me look thinner?".

Only noobs answer that kind of question (and inevitably wind up on the wrong side of a three day staring contest) .

BTW, the answer is "one". Since the incomplete cube is made of complete cubes, just take one complete cube, put it in your pocket, and walk away.

Aktung got it right off; when I first posted this on Face Book there was lots of talk about removing cubes and other smart-alec lateral thinking (ET2SN) but the plain truth is of course that a whole extra layer of little cubes is needed there on the top to make this into a proper cube

Now where did I put those nuts...
