She was highly radioactive after Test Baker and the ability to decontanimate was still in it's infancy.
Along with the other test ships, namely the Pennsylvania, New York, Salt Lake City and Pensacola, etc, it was simply easier to conduct what would be now called a SINKEX. Mike.
