@ Ahead Flank on this test course in a Gato is 21kts and uses 30% of bunkerage.

FWIW, the course is 35 degrees true out of Brissie harbor for 2000km.

On the unwinnable patrol, I set the knot gauge to 10 kts in each direction; on the return, it nevertheless often ran at 7-9 kts instead, suggesting at least part of the issue could be wind and current based. On the test course, the knot meter stays firmly on the chosen value.
