One does not preclude the other, i know, as I was also an avid reader. Greeleys autobiography of the Lady Franklin Bay expedition made him a hero in my young eyes. Same thing with Rene Foncks book though i learned later he was a bit of a boaster.

My Childhood Hero? Hmmm. Luke.
(Remember I posted that here?)

OH come on is that the face of a murderous killer?

So what if he gunned down the occasional Bounty Hunter or government goon? Considering what the other "Protagonists" did that’s fairly minor. The Empire and the Hutts tried to kill all his friends and residents of Nar Sharadda, so he’s off for a little revenge so what? Plus Chewie and his people were Slaves of the Empire of course his pissed at them, wouldn't you be? Han was just a man trying to make a living in a 'verse that hates him.

Which brings me to my Adult (anti-)heroes (of the "Big" and "Damn" variety)
Mal Reynolds and Jayne Cobb

So what if they threaten torture to the occasional Lawman (then shoot them in the head and throw them off the ship). They do good works!

I think many around here would agree with their concept of…

Morality: “You don't know me, son, so let me explain this to you once. If I ever kill you you'll be awake. You'll be facing me. And you'll be armed.” –Mal

“Sheperd Book once told me: ‘If you can’t do something smart do something right.’” -Jayne

"If someone every tries to kill you you try to kill them right back!" -Mal

The Government: “This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there’s a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They’re gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I’m asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they’ll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave.” –Mal

“A government is a body of people usually notably ungoverned.” –Mal

Religion: The Operative: Do you know what your sin is, Mal?
Mal: Oh hell, I'm a fan of all seven. But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath.

“I once hit a man in the neck from 500 yards with a bent scope, don’t that count with the man upstars?” -Jayne

Took the words right out of my mouth, though Boyington counts as an anti-hero in the Han Solo mold, I think.

Mine-as a boy: Yeager, Dick Bong, Robert Johnson (the leading American Ace in Europe).

As a teenager: The Nurk Twins, Nanker Phelge, Robert Johnson (the musician), Jack Casady. None of them real role models, just musicians I admired.

Hmm...:hmm:...Right! So he's not Really a Killer. But the Scene in the First Movie as they were in the Death Star and they killed the Guards outside the Ship was really...kinda Brutal. And that he "Shoots First" isn't Really good for his image. But he maybe just was Scared and didn't want to get shot.:hmm:

Fu*k me, that Star Wars Story Goes deep...

Ahh Combat. I remember my parents being reluctant to let me watch it back when it was originally on TV.

Vic Morrow the only guy in the ETO with an inexhaustible supply of camo helmet covers...
