Default Tankfest 2006 UK June 25th 2006

Since my time living here in the UK I have been wanting to get down to the Bovington Tank Museum having found out about it whilst watching a program about tanks on the History Channel a few years ago. Yesterday I thought with the good weather finally here that now was the time to organise a trip to the tank museum. When I checked their website last night I was happy to see that in a few weeks time Bovington Tank Museum are hosting their biennial event Tankfest. Here is the link to what happens on the day:

http://www.tankmuseum.co.uk/news/pr_...06_160106.html

So for anyone interested the event is on Sunday June 25th in a little under three weeks time. Has anyone here ever visited Bovington Tank Museum and in particular the Tankfest day there? Is it a worthwhile experience? What are peoples views on this museum? Cheers.

now that's just taking the whole "it's allready been discussed" nonsense a bit to far----you can't mention that some guy in a wolly hat on a hill in the middle of the sahara desert actualy thought about the same thing in 1894

This has nothing to do with the Tankfest event itself which is being held in three weeks time. I'm planning on taking my wife and nephew to the event and was asking what people thought of the museum. In addition I was giving people a head ups if they would like to attend.

Don'T be so serious. It was just a heads-up that two weeks earlier you would have had the opportunity to meet some great community at the Bovington museum, and not only visit the Museum, but tanker around yourself a bit, too.

Mate, I am flat out at work with some AOG's and training my staff. I asked some fairly straight forward questions. In any case if I was really so serious I would have used the applicable emoticons such as , or , or . You will note that the emoticon I used was a confused/question mark one. Geez Louise!

With the most interesting collection of Sherman tanks and improvisations and/or adaptations on tanks in general that I have ever seen...

Never been to Bovington though. And won't be able to make it this year.

Speaking of Tank and ordinance museums there is a good one here in the states.

Couldn't find the official website but this will serve.

Bovington Tank Museum is a waste of money now, and that's a fact! On my first visit back in mid to late 1970's, I found it to be an OK museum which had a great shop with top notch books. But on my last visit some five years ago I was deeply disappointed in what I saw, no change what so ever.

The WW1 section was OK but the rest was a mess, displays arranged badly, information was poor and the shop now turned into a tacky pile of junk, which charged dreadful high prices and the food hall was a bigger joke. No I will never return there, until they give the museum a major revamp.

On a better note over the years Duxford Museum has been very good and moving with the times, their land warfare section puts Bovington to shame.

I have now booked a couple of tickets for the Tankfest day at Bovington Tank Museum on June 25th. Hopefully the Tiger tank will be running and involved in one of the live displays on the day. In a real coup I've even convinced by wife to come along for the day on the proviso that we spend the whole weekend down in Dorset relaxing and having a mini-break. It should be great.
