As long as there has been a military of any nation anywhere in the world there have of course been rations of some kind to feed the troops. And of course it wouldn't be the military without have someone lament about the food, hardtack biscuits, C and B rations, goober peas, and so on. Of course the modern military uses MREs or Meals Ready to Eat and in this case there is an MRE so bad it's now a T-Shirt. Menu Item No.4 the cheese and veggie omelet.
It was so bad the troops nicknamed it the "Vomelet". https://slate.com/human-interest/201...=pocket-newtab Quote:

I was in the Navy. Our food was prepared by cooks on the spot. It was never the greatest, but it was always good.
Or, in the words of the old song:

I just saw an ad for MRE's on a FB page for 12 MRE's and no heater included (non military) for $69. I'll pass ...

Best military rations that I ever ate were "LRRP rats".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LRP_ration ![]() I believe they still sell them in the civilian market under the trade name "Mountain House".

My dad told me that when he was in the Army in the 50's they had to heat up the K rations using the engines of jeeps and trucks. I had my own experience with food in the military, back when I was in Navy separations the food we got was just like food you'd get in the joint. After a while of eating powered scrambled eggs one day my stomach was just like "Nope, put the fork DOWN!". I couldn't eat real scrambled eggs for nearly two years after that.

![]() That's a difference between Russian and American MREs. Eating American MREs locks you up so you are pooping cinderblocks after a few days. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thing about buying surplus mre's is you never know if they're tainted. The military regularly samples their stocks and will toss entire lot if there are any failures. This is not necessarily done with surplus stocks.
