Thanks Donut,
however I did not quite undestand your message, IBU 1.03 is still Beta ? and there was a change in the development team ?
My crew seems unable to see something beyond 3000 metres in clear weather (OK they are raw in 1939) but I was able to detect smoke trying to follow a map contact which led to a hydrophone contact.
Again is RUB 1.45 installed by the exe when IUB1.03 is installed ? (the documentation is ambiguous about this point).
Thanks for the information.

Brief history:

First there was RUb. Then sometime later oRGy released the first IUB which was fundamentally RUb 1.44 but with some tweaks and more "eye candy" bits and pieces.

oRGy then left the scene after a minor update or two. Along came JonZ who kept the legacy going by releasing an updated IUB (1.03) incorporating RUb 1.45. JonZ has now disappeared, effectively meaning that IUB is no longer supported.

FWIW, and I'm sure I'll attract criticism here, I don't see the point of IUB any more. I think it's been overtaken by both The Grey Wolves and NYGM, especially as they continue to be supported whilst IUB does not.

Personally, I run stock Grey Wolves with some RUb tweaks introduced via SH3Cmdr - I couldn't be happier.

And yeah, IUB has never dropped the beta tag.

I'm not very familiar with IUB, but there have been several posts stating that it includes some version of RUb.

So, to answer your question of whether RUb (and by implication IUb) is installed, just look at the map. Vanilla SH3 has very few ports or cities, RUb has many. For example, is "Lowestoft" present (originally spelled wrongly with a final 'e') on the east coast of the UK? If so, and without the final 'e', you have RUb 1.44 or RUb 1.45 installed and, presumably, all of IUb too. If the final 'e' is still present, you have an earlier version of RUb, and thus presumably an earlier version of IUb.

Oh, I just remembered there was a problem with installing IUB1.03 via JSGME because by default the IUB installer included an extra folder layer. You may like to ensure that the mod path is:

\SilentHunterIII\MODS\IuBv103\data\ and NOT
\SilentHunterIII\MODS\IuBv103\Improved U-Boatv103\data\

Just found this thread on the subject which outlines the steps to take to fix.
