Hi John yes Escorts in Silent Hunter III will run over you and damage your Uboat if your at periscope depth and merchant ships too.
Later in the war the nearest escort to you may not do a run on you he will call in other approaching escorts to attack you
with a whats known as a creeping attack slowly heading for you at 3-5 knots 2/3 escorts droping a five charge pattern b for baker over your area with 3-4 escorts some of them elite its a real challenge getting away from them because you will be beam on to one of them all the time.
Also in 1943 when Hedgehogs a forward firing mortar bomblets with contact exploders fired at you at 200-300mtrs from you were fitted to escorts
it gave the escorts another string to there bow so to speak the days were gone when you could let the escort close on you from behind then when he got close 200/300mtrs away you would go at flank speed turn 30-45° and the depth charges would explode 300-400mtrs behind you
and theres the constant threat of aircraft joining the party too in multiplayer and single missions I have experienced this many times.
