A very few buried a close family member. Many buried a politician and former leader of theirs.

But the more I think of it, and considering the irresponsible and/or self-weakening policies of his successors, what most importantly got buried was the pax americana, with all its delicate intricacies and implications, necessities and fundaments, balances and inner dynamics. Bush sr seem to have been aware of all this: his successors were not, none of them. Clinton and Obama needlessly weakened and hollowed it out, Bush jr mindlessly corrupted it, Trump simply does not even care anymore.
