Default Can we expect a modern sub sim on the caliber of SH3?

I love my Silent hunter 3, and am eagerly aweaiting my copy of Sub Command, as im equally in love with the modern era of Submarines. I would just be so happy if a game came out that acted like SH3 in that you can move around the boat sit at the different stations, and have it look as good as SH3 does, and have a "living" crew. It would really make for an amazing game with great moments to surface a nuke sub up and throgh a layer of ice to test launch a missile or something. Does anyone think we can expect such a game?

Probably not so likely, at least not in the near future. It seems the "living crew" in SH3 was a logical extension of the game's 3-D world, which is the ideal way to model the surface attacks and such of WWII. For modern sims there's no equivalent necessity and at the same time I believe their share of the market is much smaller, so their development budgets would be smaller as well.

I doubt a sub sim dealing with modern subs would gather a large audience. Primarly because they'res not very much history behind them. There's been no major wars involing them, and i doubt theirs much in the way of "legends" that inspire. No Priens, no skapa flow's No "mush" morton's, no reconitering of wewak harbor's, no Tangs, to U-96's, no Triggers, no U-50's, etc.

Yeah but how fun is that?

And wheres the ASW to worry about? I highly doubt Iraq had anything counter subs.

EDIT: I think the only way a modern sub sim would gather any sort of audience is if the game developers took alot of historical liberty and created an alternate timeline where the cold war turned into WW3. At that point though, its all one big, "what if".

Well we do have the Conquer, Whitey Mack and his Lampon (too bad we can't put his motto on the box that would draw attention!), Guardfish, and Batfish. The Foxtrot (B-4) that broke the Walnut Line. Unfortunately Conquer is probably the only one anyone has heard of…

"V" for Vendetta? Guy Fawkes lives.

For some reason modern sub sims have never interested me. I've always found the streamlined perfect shapes of nuclear subs aesthically dull.

I still think they stole that from the "You can't fight ideas with bullets." line the NSF commander spouts in Deus Ex.

No offense, but anyone who agree's with that statement needs to read "Blind mans bluff"
