Are you saving - near land? near other ships or spawned objects? while submerged?

this has been known to corrupt save games since the release of SHIII

I heard of this happening but was hoping that was not the case. I am playing a single mission which is short, but I like to save regardless. Often it does not affect my save game, but in this case, it must be the reason as I started with all mods disabled via JSGME, so I doubt there was a mod conflict. Quite the terrible bug to leave in the game unpatched but no use crying over a bug that is over ten years old. Unfortunately, there is no way to save on that particular mission without being submerged or near a large group of ships.

Hi M
Are the single missions designed to be saved or are they to be played in 1 gaming session?

Most of the missions are short such as the one I referred to, being an hour at most. Others, especially the Grey Wolves mod ones, can be longer though such as the ones were you need to search for the enemy. The Gibraltar mission is an example of an actually long stock mission.

I started my career but lately have run into this problem of crashing to desktop again. I know the problem is as old as Silent Hunter 3 itself but I was hoping some of you might have advice on how to save my career saves. I have undone mods in JSGME with no success, I made sure to save on the surface and away from land or large groups of ships but it still occurs. The problem has been worse as of late and has cost me several game saves to go back to one that works.

Activated mods:

depth charge noise - Rev A - GWX
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
GWX - Alternative Flotillas
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennas
GWX - Merged Campaign
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX Torpedo Alarm Mod
GWX Turm Lights fix
Q Ship mod GWX3.0
Real Depth Charge
STzSinkingShipFix 2.1
torpedo trail and wake fix

As GoldenRivet said in and earlier post in this thread,
Quote:
also...are you using SHIII Commander to launch SHIII? if yes, have you tinkered with the time compression settings in anyway? if you have i would restore them all to default settings
If you are using sh3 commander to launch your game, do you have the additional configuration required files installed for sh3 commander when using GWX?

Yes, I have the extra GWX configuration files installed. What is happening is that the game will load the save file and I will get the message screen "Not so long ago" where it hangs for a bit before crashing to desktop. Before it was only my latest saves with that career but now it is every save. I tried deleting some of the earlier saves because I read somewhere that SH3 cannot handle a lot of save files but that did not work.

I started a new career and those save games load fine. It might have something to do with either the mods I was using or the amount of save game files. I hope to recover the earlier career and I fear that if I continue with the second career I will run into the same problem again.
