For an easier run I highly recommend (from own experience) to start with a sub that goes at 30+ knots max speed, making torpedo evasion easier. This means that the 1968 campaign will be much harder, sub speeds are generally at 20-24 knots only which requires more accurate tactics that start evasion earlier and make any attack more risky.
The good thing about modded campaigns is that there are a lot of modelled subs and VLS systems not included in the stock game like Sea-Lance missiles (? I go by memory here), but I would first play the stock game before playing any mod. |
