My son recently had a friend of his from the Phillipines stay with him for six weeks and we were informed he preferred dark beer to lager, so I purchased a few crates of Black Sheep for our weekly Monday evening familly dinner meets.
He's gone back home now and I realised I still had a few bottles left, no problem, they tasted great and this has re-ignited my 'addiction' temporarily away from the usual lagers.

I'm going to Tesco shortly and had a look online for who is currently the cheapest dark rum provider when I come across the sister beer to Black Sheep I hadn't seen before, Golsden Sheep, at 4.7% it is slightly stronger than Black Sheeps 4.4% so I'll give it a try this evening.

Not badly priced either at £6 for 4x500ml bottles.

Couldn't see any Golden sheep so picked up a few packs each of Black Sheep, Amigos and this one below which I may have tried before but can't be sure.

Default Co-op IPA

4.5%, "Brewed in Stockport" (Frederic Robinson Brewery) for Co-op Stores, £1.99 or three for £5.00.

The flavour of this beer belies the extremely dull-looking label: it's smooth, frothy, full-flavoured and honeyed... and it seems to keep a head on it right to the bottom of the glass. On the back there is also a quote from a Co-op member describing it as "Voluminous, good body and fruity hop"

Default Pure Ubu

A beautiful amber ale with no sweetness this time, just a full malty bitterness. Another of the £1.99 or three for £5 from the Co-op

Been well over a year since I last had this but tonight seems like as good a time as any to re-acquaint oneself again.

Default Wild Bill's IPA

Another in the three for £5.00 Co-op deal. 5% ABV and a darker, nutty ale with a good strong bitter flavour which lingers well after. Brewed by Marston's

Gonna give this bad boy a try tonight while I have my Chinese curry (onions and mushrooms waiting to be added).

I just had a bottle of black sheep... yes, it's redder and darker than Golden Sheep... not as strong and with a maltier flavour as you'd expect. But I prefer stronger lighter ales nowadays, so it would be Golden Sheep for me.

I'm off after tonight for whatever remains of the bank holiday weekend and have restocked the brewery/garage storage area with a fitting selection of Badger Brewery ales.

Went over to the north side of the river last night to pick the wife up from work and noticed these were on offer so picked up a case and must say they tasted very nice (can't say for sure if I've had this one before).

Quote:
A heady mix of Wold grown Barley, Wheat and Cara malt hopped with Goldings and Styrian hops give the beer
its soft, fruity flavour with a hint of spice. This is the beer to drink whilst
basking in the sun on bank holidays or any days!

(Beer and curry….. this is the one!)
Funnily enough we had a Chinese curry last night and tonight we will be having a pre-planned Indian so I'll be trying the remaining bottles with that.

Default Elgood's "Warrior"

ABV 5.5%, only £1.29 from ALDI Stores

Much is made of the "Generous portions of English hop varieties" but I didn't really get much 'hoppiness' nonethelesss. It was indeed very bitter... too bitter for my taste really, but then that's just me. Not one I'll get again

Had this on tap last weekend

A big, very big, bad boy, motor oil goodness. Kinda like a blend of Cervisiam's Salty Christmas Balls and Kinn's Svartekunst, so many flavours it could confuse any cat. A sipper definitely, one for the winter nights but hey it worked as a dessert in the summer afternoon too.

Default Robinsons 'Unicorn' Premium Golden Ale

4.3% ABV and just £1.29 from ALDI Stores.

Lighter and less bitter than the 'Warrior' ale but again... not particularly hoppy, despite what's said on the label. Just a decent, golden ale but nothing outstanding to my taste buds.

But there is a "Robinsons Brewery 180th Anniversary" Prize Draw here with the chance to win a flight in a Spitfire, so it will turn out to be a very good drink for one lucky punter.
