Does deactivating "Realistic Sensors" make the Radar/Sonar upgrades useless?

Your sonar gets "upgraded", and is now good to 15,000 at the 1x setting, but is now good out to 18,000 yards with the tick box de-selected... These figures in no way insinuates what you, the user, might encounter in your game play, and is no guarantee of improved game play...

Ah so with Realistic Sensors on my hydrophone reaches (for example) 1000m, and when I upgrade it to the cool crystal-version it reaches 2000m. When I deactivate Realistic Sensors I get 3000m with the normal hydrophone, and the crystal version gets me 5000.
