Thanks for posting this information and letting us know Vienna. This is an unprecedented move by Microsoft and I'm betting they are doing it to also establish spyware and malware in those computers using Windows XP. If you don't have your XP computer online, it might be worth it.

WinXP has so many holes that nowadays it should be used offline exclusively, physically disconncted from the web - always. I read it is much, much worse than if you do not patch W7.

Then this patch is not needed.

Because me too suspects there is more to it than just helping out dear customers in need.

Disclaimer: for unpatched W7 (what I recommend), I again also strongly recommend not to use such a machine for ordinary online activities. Best is to not use it for any online activity.
