Where would I go if I ask for a transfer

I presently have a VIIB, good compliment of varied staff qualifications and have done 31 patrols out of St. Nazaire. If I were to transfer, where would I go to next and what would my patrol areas be like. I have had a lot of fun working out of St. Nazaire and patrolling the North Atlantic.
Would I retain the VIIB or would the transfer upgrade my sub?

I believe you have the choice where you want to transfer?

What year of the war you are in, will tell you where is a fun place to patrol I think?

You could transfer to Bergen and fight convoys bound for Russia.

I find Bergen quite boring - I started a career there (Jan 1943) and didn't see a thing for three patrols...until a blasted task force saw me and put an end to my career. Fortuitous in a way as I started a new career back in 7th Flotilla. Ships galore!

You'll keep your boat, though a different Flotilla might have different types to choose from, but you'd have to upgrade, it won't happen automatically. Where your patrols would be would depend on which Flotilla you choose and what boat type you're commanding.

St Nazaire is nice because it's the easiest in and out of.

I am still in June, 1941 (using the basic SH3 with 35 mods and an upgraded VIIB as much as I could) U-51 has served me well, although I wish I could get a good bow shot someday. In what year can I upgrade to a different sub?

It's June '41 and you've made 31 patrols in a VIIB? Assuming you began on Sept. 1 ,'39 your average patrol and refit was only 21 days?

Each patrol in a VII (in my experience) is several weeks. I think 8 weeks is an average patrol for a VII, isn't it? And assuming a few weeks down after you get back, by June '41 you should only have at most 8 or 9 patrols.

What are you doing to get 31 patrols in less than two years? Heck, you'd be lucky to get that many patrols in a type II during that amount of time (typical patrol is 2 weeks at sea).

Sorry, I have no idea what you mean. I started out where everyone starts, from Wilsenhaven (spelling) with a IIA and then transfer to St. Nazaire after my sixth patrol and got a VIIB which I upgraded a bit at the end of each patrol. I just play'em as they come and I play every day because my incurable diseases keep me at home.

It just seemed like an awful lot of patrols since patrols take probably 6 weeks (2 at sea, 4 on shore) in a type II and probably 12 weeks in a type VII (8 at sea, 4 on shore). That works out to a lot less than 31 patrols in that time frame. I was just wondering what you were doing to get that many patrols in that short of a time period.

No problem. Sorry, I meant 31 patrols up to and including June, 1941. I expect my next patrol will be July, 1941.

What flotilla you go to mainly depends on what type of uboat you want to operate.

If you want to stay in type VII uboats, then your choices are:

- 1st flotilla - they operate, um.. all over the atlantic i think. I remember doing patrols out of there near the atlantic side gibralter .

- 7th flotilla - not sure whey they typically send you.

- 11th flotilla - I think they operate primarly in the north atlantic.

-29 flotilla, In the mediterianian. Say goodbye to the atlantic. Your in your own world in this body of water

of those flotillas its good bet that whereever they send you, it will be within range of a type 7 boat.

If you want to move to type IV uboats, then:

- 2nd flotilla, early war operates primarly on the mid atlantic or north africa, later you'll be on the US eastern seaboard, caribean, and south africa near freetown.

- 10th flotilla, pretty much same as the 2nd.

- 12 flotilla, This is a unique flotilla as theres long range uboats, and then theres REALLY long range uboats. the 12th operates primarly in the south atlanic , like say, near cape town, or argentina.

For the above 3 flotillas, if you dont like long range patrols that are well outside of a type 7's range, and uboats that are less manuverable and slower diving then a type 7, stay away from them.

I have VIIB, am in July 1941, and started at the beginning of the war. I am on Patrol 13. I have no idea how Robj got to patrol 31 by this time, even if he was just firing all his torps off in port and docking again. However - 8 weeks is a very long patrol (in my opinion) in a VIIB. Last patrol I ran till I was almost out of fuel, and the patrol was ~4 weeks. That's with a few flank overhauling maneuvers, but otherwise sparing fuel as a rule. Remember - with 14 torps, you can only launch about three assault runs on a convoy. That can all happen in 24 hrs.

Nothing on this post seems to add up right.

Robj - if yer tired of the VIIB, then get an IXC (should be available at Lorient) by now. She's got two rear tubes. But know this - if you switch out of your VIIB (which right now pulls 21kts at flank), you will NEVER get back such a fast boat. The VIIB with the MAN engine upgrade (added by the player in ~'40) is the only boat in the game that can go that fast, and when you switch back, even with the MAN, for some reason the VIIB only pulls the maximum that the VIIC pulls (~17 or 18 kts).

I'll never let go of my speedy little VIIB.
