Default Should I Buy it?....

I have had SHIII since the first day it was released in the UK.I have never played a modern day Naval simulator and so I haven't really been following the development of D.W. but yesterday I noticed it on sale in my local software shop so when I got home I looked it up here and I was quite impressed and had virtually made my mind up to buy it sometime this week. However late last night I saw a quote from someone who had worked on the game's development and they said that regretably the graphics on D.W. were not as good as SHIII.Now I know that graphics are not the only thing that make a great game but I know that personally I would be disappointed if I bought the game and the graphics didn't come at least near SHIII standard.Incidently I did try to download the Demo but it's such a big one that my link with the server was cut before the download finished.

the graphics aren't top of the line, but they are more than passable. There are plenty of sites with screenshots.

if there is something to worry about it's the complexity. I myself fly the air platforms because they are much easier than the subs. The book alone for the game is 2 inches thick.

There's some hope that we might get a mod with improved Xmodels in the near future, but in the meantime we're stuck with mediocre graphics. I really don't see why graphics are so important though, since most of the time you're looking at sensor displays, not out the window. DW does a good job of forming an integrated, realistic battlespace...graphics aren't, and shouldn't be, a priority.

No the graphics aren't like SHIII. Its more like 1998 graphics than 2006. What the game offers is pretty unique. A very sophisticated sonar model. And 6 interesting platforms to explore it with.

Its semi-moddable, with good modding options available for the AI platforms, AI behavior, but limited mod-ablility for player platforms. There are a nice conglomerate of missions to keep one occupied for a while as well.

Its probably worth it to check the demo out first.

You can also take a look in my Landlubber Guide. This could give you an idea about the gameplay differences between ww2 and modern subsims and the learning curve you have to master.

I have not long bought Dangerous Waters, and I must say it's something very different to learn, I have spent a fair bit of time learning to identify and track sonar contacts, and it is well worth it.

Taking down a target which you have identified and created a solution for and skipping back away into the depths, is very satisfying.

Even not actually shooting anything can be fun, trying to avoid detection and being attacked to take photos or drop off special forces etc and then get away without a shot being fired is great!

To be honest the graphics were the last thing that I looked at, although it is a little striking at how old style they are. But for what you actually need to see, they are just fine and dont detract from your ability to conduct an attack and identify targets.

I don't think anyone should pass Dangerous Waters by without trying it out, its worth every penny for what you get.

Be warned, you will have to do some reading and experimenting to learn, there is NO escaping it!

And if you do get it, check out the above landlubber guide, its right on the dot and very helpful. I used it myself!!!

Yes, DW has a learning curve to it. But I don't think it's all that difficult. From my experience since Sub Command, learning how to operate Sonar and use TMA have been an enjoyable process. And now learning the intracacies of how to operate a naval surface ship. :|\ Simply put, I think DW is definitely worth the money. So yes, go out and buy it.
