Kipparikale: An advice for everyone who has serious problems with escorts, destroyers, corvettes etc.

Go underwater, make much noise as possible to make them notice you.
Then turn your ass to the closest destroyer, wait until it goes straight to you.
Then fire a magnetic torpedo, results quaranteed.
This brilliant Bugs Bunny, "gotcha" tactic, led to the biggest haul I've ever had, ever. It's GWX, VIIB, Early war (late 1939?).

Assigned gridpoint BE59 - damn, either I burn most of my fuel going up and around the safe way, or I cheat and gamble the English channel. I gamble the channel.

At 10PM, I run smack into a large convoy, moving west at medium speed. It's 5 Columns, a lone destroyer leading... and the freaking HMS Nelson in the middle of the pack. Holy cow. so I crunch the numbers, charge in, and salvo three at Nelson.

Only two of three hit the battleship - but one's in the engine bay, so the whole convoy comes to a crawl. I'm like "Hey, 2 out of three's not bad", and then the third one cripples a Medium tanker, too . With my last torp, I hit the Nelson, and she goes down.

The destroyer, pissed off, comes to take a long look, but I'm gone.

And then I became a subsim member, and read about that inane, but brilliant tactic.

Now I would not recommend this later in the war, when you might be chased by multiple destroyers - just because you nail one doesn't mean you're in the clear...

But I come back to the convoy, now moving slowly because of the crippled tanker. I take a random shot with the deck gun, u-turn to periscope depth, and wait for the inevitable "Warship@--- Very Fast! Closing!". What happens is "Yakety Sax" worthy

Now 1 AM gametime, I went on to absolutely crush this convoy unmolested, no further eels required, for something like 60k tons in one gamenight. I haven't even reached my patrol point yet

Thanks for this awesome tip

cool

Checked my logbook, it was a 119400 ton trip
I'm sitting, like, quadruple Prien's total haul. What a scrub

Though, if you're having success, you'll make the historical aces look bad pretty fast :P

I had so many U-boat War Badges to give out, the game crapped itself a bit until I got under about a dozen.

This has probably already been said, but slow time compression (32x or less) seriously messes with crew endurance. Yes, people heal faster, but people tire incredibly fast. On the other hand, incredibly fast TC (like 512x, or 1024x) doesn't tire the crew at all - you can just show up at the scene with the people you've assigned, fresh and ready, if you use max boost. So, either book it, or use as little time-accel as possible (unless you really like micromanaging "Fritz Wagner, the petty officer" for some reason).

Also, watch your time compression around docks - the lag can be absurd, you can run into a boat, you can run into a minefield of net if you're not careful, etc.
