SHO New to SubSim.com

Though new to the website officially, I am a member of the group on Facebook.

I am what is generally considered, an avid gamer.. I am eclectic in my gaming tastes.. from strategy to sub sims.. an anything in between. If it catches my attention, I will try it & if I like it, will stick with it.

I 1st cut my gaming teeth with sub sims starting with Silent Service by Microprose, on the original Nintendo game system. I still consider it my all time fave, along with Silent Hunter. I did play some other minor sub sim games on older computer systems, back in the day, when floppies were the rage..*chuckles* which transmutated to the hard disks 3.5, if I recall that right.. it has been some time since those days. Then all the way up to CD/dvd disks.. I first played Silent hunter: Commander's edition on a IBM compatible Win 98 SE computer & loved it.. later computers I got, were sadly not able to play it on, an so lost touch with any sub games for awhile, until around 2012, I did a search just out of curiosity, for sub games that were able to be played online & found Silent Hunter Online. I signed up for that right off... an despite some.. issues, rather enjoyed playing that. Sadly, with the final day of Oct., it will be no more.. as they will be deep sixing it..

Which I then did another search for & found a 3 in 1 pack of Silent Hunter 3, 4 & 5... I know, have read some reviews of SH5 that dead pan it as bad.. but it came along with the others, an will give it a go, an see for myself...

Any way, that's basically a brief synopsis of how I came to play sub sims..

Edit post it note.. Just remembered, that in addition to SH 3, 4 & 5.. I also do have the original SH as well.. though in playing it, I have to go through a prog called.. "D-fend Reloaded"

Still getting my "feet wet" so to speak on SH 3, but the game is rather good.. I do want to look into any mods that might be available to add, to it.. as well as 1, 4 & 5...

I have tooled around some in 4 & 5, an they are not bad in themselves either..

Welcome to Subsim Mad Mardigan. Great Introduction as well. Thanks for the helpful information regarding Defend reloaded as members are always having issues with playing older games on newer systems.

Enjoy your time here.

Was found with doing a bit of searching the interwebz.. of that program, an that it works for playing the very first Silent Hunter game.. after downloading & installing it, find where you can get, an download Silent Hunter.. then go into the d-fend reloaded, an can then have it to extract & install the game.. after that, enjoy...
