That was fun. I live so close and haven't been there yet.

Very nice.

Looks like you almost had the ship to yourself most of the time.

Pretty casual tour with great docents all over to explain stuff. The USS Pampanito is parked right next door; so it's a real WWII one-two punch of an excursion Nice video...nice new sig too Torplexed!

All I can say is wow.

The ship looks well cared for. I loved seeing the displays and well preserved artifacts, uniforms and wall photographs.

Is this ship still fully functional with working engines ?

Great Post and thread McBeck. Thanks for posting the thread and video.

The ship is still in use and thus well maintained. It also meant that that a great deal of things were available.

I would advice ANYBODY in the area to visit this ship and the USS Pampanito and by paying the 20$ (pr tour) admission you also support the upkeep...

BTW, here is my Pampanito tour :

Yes and occasionally cruises up the Bay and Sacramento River and of course famously made it back to D-day's anniversary.

Actually turned into a three-punch as word of The USS Iowa being towed out from her berth at the Suisun Ghost fleet to Southern California to become a museum suddenly arrived. My buddy and I dashed across San Francisco to the top of Fort Point to catch this view! (photo not mine-just enough room in the viewfinder??!! What a day! 4 Ur Cruzin' pleasure: http://www.ssjeremiahobrien.org/events.php I have considered that a two-ship tour and a cruise on the Liberty might make an ideal meet!

One thing I love about the US military attractions is that often, the people hosting are very dedicated and you can always have a chat with them

I'm sure the Iowa was a sight.
