Like I said above, I have the issue with Silent Hunter series and ARMA. ARMA is not an old game, so i doubt that it is just the game that gives the problem. But I'm just guessing
![]() I installed SH3 on my son's laptop and it renders the sky and underwater fine without banding. |

@cdrsubron7: It's an AMD Radeon R5 as far as I remember. Just don't know which one.

And banding is always caused by the graphics engine not having enough colors to choose from. In photography we call it posterization and it is purposely caused by limiting the color pallet.

@cdrsubron7:
Sorry for not replying sooner, just got a new labrador pup! My graphic card is an Nvidia GeForce 460. Sorry to hijack Balladeer's thread...but I'm sure many people have the same banding problem. Would be nice to know if it could be cured and if so, is it a newer graphic card, monitor or different cable set up that needs looking at....or is it just time for a newer computer? |

![]() ![]() limkol, i dont think its an issue of outdated hardware. Balladeer has a GTX 970, thats a high end card capable of running most (all?) modern AAA games (fallout 4, mad max, gta 5, etc), it shouldnt even break a sweat running sh4. Personally i have a GTX750ti, wich is "lower on the ladder" than a 970, and its still more than enough to run SH4. Even SH5 runs at over 60FPS. Im betting that its either some "tweak" we need to do to our nvidia settings, or some incompatibility between the nvidia drivers and SH4. Lets hope its the former! |

I could have ~sworn~ that I posted a reply in here... but the brain, it eez strange, eez eet not?... Anyway, on the nVidia web site forum, there are all sorts of complaints about the same banding issue in "games" - a lot of games. Some say it's AA, others say it's something else. I did a search and found a vid on ToobYu, and the guy sets his refresh rate from 60Hz to 59.999. Now, how that helps, if it even does, I do not know (mind over reality?). Another fellow on the 3d guru site mentions using some freeware "tool" that can adjust the AA (and other) settings of an nVidia card. Again, how useful it actually is, I don't know...

Hate to suggest anything obvious - but have you tried turning off the 'light rays' in your graphics options?

Have tried changing every setting. Light rays, post effects, etc. And combinations of those settings. No go
