Well, I guess this explain why I never had problems with tubes closing themselves. I always open them ('Q") from back to front, tube 4, 3, 2, and 1. Then firing sequence from tube 1 to tube 4.

I tried opening them last to first (e.g. 3 to 1), but they still close themselves
oh well, i guess its not a big deal. Ill just open/fire one at a time, or ill use salvos.

Ok, perhaps to be precise this is what I do:

First I go to F6 (attack chart) then click on tube 4, Q, then tube 3, Q, tube 2, Q, tube 1, Q
Then I go to Periscope station, raise periscope and commence attack.

I hate delay caused by torpedo door opening as it normally caused missed shot.

Hope it helps.

I just loaded an old career to check it.

On the TDC screen you can open the tubes by selecting tube 1 and pressing Q, switching over to tube 2 and pressing Q again etc. - and all tubes stay open and you can switch between the open tubes as you wish - they stay open.

You can check it with F12.

If you jump to the attack scope/UZO/Obs Scope screen and switch the indicated/highlighted tube - you close all tubes exept the chosen one.

A screen mod (periscope/TDC) may have unknown effects.

I was opening the tubes from the periscope/uzo, and they continued to close themselves, even if i opened them from last to first. Somehow i dint try opening them from the TDC.

I tried opening them on the TDC as you guys suggested, and it worked! this time my tubes stayed open.
It shouldnt be a problem to open them from the tdc. nowadays i enter target data directly into the TDC anyway (no notepad), so i will continue to open them there, right after the last range input.

thanks guys!

I was playing with this last night.

1) selecting salvo keeps them open. Even if you deselect salvo and select individual tubes.

2) opening tubes from weapons officer station(TDC) keeps them open

3) opening tubes from attack periscope(conning tower view 3D) keeps them open.

The best way to think about it is this, any input you give at the periscope, look at it as a verbal order to your crewmen since in real life you would not have a TDC in front of you while looking through the scope. So when you select individual tubes from the scope, you are asking for that tube only at that moment. Going to the weapons station means you are physically opening all tubes you want. So they will not close.

Hi,

to avoid this problem I have added the attack map's tube selector (circular dial) to the UZO/Peri screen and disabled the tube buttons on the UZO/Peri screens. When using this dial the tubes do not close. There might be some GUI mods out there which do/offer the same

Best, LGN1
