Hi Alfrazi
The first auto save you see is 'Autosave Enter Base'.
This is the auto save that starts your current mission and also ends your patrol.
You only ever use this automated save to enter the bunker.
Before you ask the 'Flotilla Leader' to start your mission you need to make a manual save.
This is done by using the 'Esc' key.
When you see the 'Main Menu select 'Save Game.'
Look where your curser is!
It is at the bottom of your screen waiting for a manual save name to be typed in.
You can call your save whatever you want.
Having named the save, now select the 'Save.'
Exit back to the 'Main Menu.'
Now go to 'Load Game' and load your new save that you will now see at the top.
Go to the 'Flotilla Leader' and start your mission.
So, the important rule here is always make a 'Manual Save in the 'Bunker' before starting a mission.

Now when you are in the game you will notice that every 25 minutes an 'Autosave In Game' takes place with each one overwriting the previous one if your gaming session is long enough.
When you are ready to finish your gaming session put your avatar on the bridge and then press the 'Esc Key'.
Make a new 'Manual Save' as in the previous instructions and exit back to the 'Main Menu and then 'Exit the game' back to the desktop.

On your next gaming session you will notice that the 'Manual Save' you made has replaced the automated 'Autosave In Game' saves.
So, the important rule here is always make a 'Manual Save when you have finished your gaming session and then use this 'Manual Save' to start your next gaming session.

Using this easy way of saving your games when used correctly will stop you getting ctd's from corrupted automated game saves.
