That happens in Windows 7 too, maybe even in Vista. So that is normal.

To this day, I still haven't found a fix for that.

Cool, DW is running great on my new windows 8.1 laptop.

Now how to I get DW to use my AMD Radeon GFX chip instead of the Intel HD 500 chip? If I do it in game it crashes.

Do I change adaptor ID = 1 instead of 0?

Recently started reading Red Storm Rising again after many years. Reminded me of the days of Janes and the other combat sims and got out my copy of Dangerous Waters with high hopes only to find it would not load. Then found this thread and now it works again!

Only problem is with the 3D graphics and the banding that is occurring. Not in the preview window when adjusting options, that looks fine but in the game itself. Outside views, the mini-screen and full screen views and even through the scope. LTV seems OK.

AMD 6800 card

Update: Loaded on my notebook Toshiba with Intell HD graphics set to Performance and great graphics no banding of splotching.

Another thing and I've only played a couple of missions, the sonar waterfall tracks are either so light a can't see them or not there. Using autocrew they call out contacts and I have the alpha markers at the top but the trace lines don't seem to be there. I'm getting to 10nm and less and I don't see them.

Mine did it until I went through the voice setup. It loads the voice module now but I simply don't use it.

It's in the file dangerouswaters.ini

I believe 1 is 800x600
2 is 1024x768
3 is 1280x1024
4 is 1600x1200

Hi guys couple questions-

First off thanks very much, the .dll download did in fact let me get the game to run, and by editing the ini file I could get the graphics to setting 3- there is no setting 4 for me, and if I try to enter 4, it defaults back to the lowest setting-

I have an i7-4790K, MSI GTX 970, and 1080p monitor, - so I would have thought I could use the setting 4 but it appears not- only 3 settings in the dropdown box, and if I select one from there it crashes, I have to do it from the .ini -- which is fine, I can live with the 3rd setting, no problem, no biggie- BUT-

the deal is my mouse cursor has tons of trails, no matter what setting I pick- it looks like when you enable mouse trails in Windows, all over the place... is there some way I can fix this? (and of course if you have any idea why I can't use the 4th resolution setting, please, I'm all hydrophones.... nyuk nyuk nyuk..

THANKS AGAIN , Hope to get this rockin and rollin!

EDIT- Sorry I should add I'm on Windows 10

There's an option in your .ini about "SoftwareCursor" or something along those lines. Change the current value to the opposite of what it is, so if it were to currently say "Yes" change it to "no" (I don't know what it says by default).

You can't use setting 4 because setting 4 is a resolution of 1600x1200. A height of 1200 pixels is too tall for a 1080p monitor and won't work.

I take your point about the monitor, I assumed 1920x1080 would allow it to work but I can see I was wrong, thanks much.

-- however, nothing at all about a cursor or anything like that. Nothing that looks like it would be even close - maybe that's the problem, I'm missing it?

Ok thanks again, much appreciated.

EDIT -one final point- I notice my FPS is up over 220, but I have a 60htz monitor which means I can only go to 60 FPS on my screen, right? I was told to use Nvidia's VSync when playing games ( i don't play much but sometimes World of Warships or even World of Tanks) -- it doesn't seem to be limiting the FPS in DW, could the problem be the fact it's doing all those FPS on a 60Htz monitor? Just a thought, thanks

Are you in the .ini file? It's right at the bottom of the [Graphics] section before the [Sound] section. It should have an entry called ".SoftwareCursor No", trying changing to "Yes".

60 Hz is the max refresh rate if V-Sync were to work (Dangerous Waters doesn't really respond to trying to force things through the driver, though). If you run a frame rate through your monitor that is faster than 60 Hz, it will simply display multiple frames at the same time and the picture may look like it's "tearing". It's possible this could be doing the mouse thing, but I haven't encountered such an issue (no v-sync here).
