Welcome back K-61. I was away from SH3 for quite a few years and am now back with it again, although its a few months since I last posted on the forums. I just play the game by myself, as I am not too keen on multiplayer. I have several campaigns on the go at the moment and am running with GWX, JSGME and SH Commander installed. My longest campaign so far, started in 1939 after training, and has reached to August 1942. It is now getting a bit harder to survive without inflicting too much damage to my boat and crew, before I can get back to base for repairs. But at least I am still one of the lucky ones so far.

It is nice to get back at sea again, especially when you have been away from it for so long, but you will soon be back in the thick of it again before too long.

Geoff

Welcome back! In case you haven't noticed, this thread will help in spotting the essential mods:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=202719

I'm certain a little bit of manual targeting, convoy stalking and escort evading will help immensely in training your brain power back to top condition in no time

Happy hunting

Thanks for the warm greetings and offers of help. I found my disc today; it was hiding next to the DVD player on the lower shelf of my entertainment center, buried under some empty CD sleeves. I was looking about and just spied the Ubisoft logo sticking out from one side. What a find!

Now I have just been saddled with a friend's dog to look after for the weekend. I'm just heading out the door now to take her for a long walk, but when I get back I will be commencing my reading and updating to get back into the game.

Thanks again, crew.

It turns out I didn't go out of town today as originally planned. Thus, I am using the day to download some recommended resources I have read about here. For example, I have just downloaded SH3 Front End. Not quite sure what to do with it yet, but it seems like a tool to have. I have to check to see if my archived material from years ago needs to be updated. It seems my archived copy of GWXGold is still okay, but I have to see if there are newer versions of SH3 Commander and JSGME.

I also have to do some reading on Living SH3. I am guessing it is its own standalone mod, not to be merged with GWX or similar. GWX Gold was my standard mod, to which I added a few goodies like the Das Boot crew faces, etc. I also have yet to figure out what hsie and stiebler are and do.

Still much learning to do... but I hope to at least have my basic game installed this afternoon, star force-free of course. Not sure if I am yet considering multiple installs of the game, but that may have to be done in order to try different super mods.

Decisions, decisions...

I just have two of the supermods installed as separate installs, both with JSGME & SH3 Comander. GWX Gold & Living SH3. Both of them are very good in different ways, but I seem to use the GWX Gold version the most.
Good luck and hope you are soon back hunting those convoys.

...haven't been out in ages...don't have the time for those long patrols anymore - even single missions seem pointless. miss it very much; life gets in the way.
