![]() Funny thing is, Moffat was always labeled a continuity porn/freak. I never quite like the Genesis of the Daleks idea, I more a original Daleks story fan! Still expecting Capaldi go to a more serious Doctor, a la 3rd, but... Sonic goggles ![]() Last edited by Rhodes; 09-27-15 at 10:23 AM. |

The TARDIS have self-defence "equipment", from the traditional shields, to de-materialization staying in the same place/time or not (once the Doctor removed a circuit and make it invisible - cue to old series fans). The trouble here was how was written, as you said.

Once Dr. Who was fun to watched because it threw mud in the face of physics and believability and still remained fun to watch. I'm a fan of Star trek technobabel and I'll happily go along with Dr Who.
But most of the time the unbelivable technology was a big part of the plot. Now it just seems as a quick wrap up mechanism. |

Right its now sunk in and my view of this episode is this..
Dull start, drawn out Middle section not bad until it fell apart and less said about the ending the better. The story lines are still poor, ok its only just getting started but I fear we are in for another season of this.

I also am not a big fan of the "Ex Machina" fixes. It just seems like someone read over the script for continuity, noticed a problem and the writers were just, "Uh... Solved!"
In response to this week, I just went back and watched Remembrance of the Daleks with the 7th doctor. One of my favorites from the classic series ![]() Last edited by jacobston; 09-27-15 at 06:39 PM. |

Ever since I have discovered the classic series, I have become very aware of the lack of critical thinking evident in the "New Who". Yes, the classical series did have its faults and cheesiness and Deux Ex Machina from time to time (pushing Daleks into a chasm, anyone?), but for the vast majority of it, the Doctor and his companions had to think about the situation they found themselves in and use what they had at their disposal to triumph. For me, the best examples of this can be found in The Celestial Toymaker and The Mind Robber (still only on Season 6 unfortunately).
As for the most recent outing, I very much like the new Master. In some ways he is very reminiscent of Roger Delgado (the only True Master), very respectful towards his enemies, highly intelligent and wearing his goal of domination like a badge of honour, albeit with a more insane streak. Far, far better than what we had before. As for Capaldi, he is great actor, but I fear that by now, the fandom has turned Modern Who into a power fantasy, so Capaldi's scripts do not give him the capacity to show of his true acting chops. |

I finally saw the first two episodes, and yet again I am made aware of my own distorted way of seeing the world. I don't know what variant versions I saw that others didn't, but I quite liked them, and I'm looking forward to the next.

Speaking of Doctor Who, apparently it's dropping another offspring onto our airwaves. Think it'll be more Sarah Jane Adventures than Torchwood:
