Default Indian PM demands Britain pay reparations

Colonialism is a practice of domination, which involves the subjugation of one people to another.

Quote:
We paid for our own oppression,” he said “It’s a bit rich to impress, maim, kill, torture and repress and then celebrate democracy at the end of it.”
Shashi Tharoor’s makes his speech at the Oxford Union
“India's share of the world economy when Britain arrived on its shores was 23 per cent. By the time the British left it was down to below four per cent," Tharoor said in the May 28 debate.
"Why? Simply because India had been governed for the benefit of Britain.”

I voted yes, pay up.

Don't the Indians own most of Britain anyway?

Well, they do have a point, and perhaps when we get an economy we'll be able to. Of course, with such a large empire we could be paying this for a while...probably cheaper to just recolonise everyone.

They've probably more paid back more in overseas aid anyway.

Blaming others for your own inadequacies just ain't cricket.

If Britain paid reparations to all of it's former colonies it would cease to exist altogether.
An eye for an eye only leaves everyone blind.

If Britain pays reparation, they should also tear the railroads and roads out of the ground and forbid the use of western medicine, schooling and bring back the Rajas and the cast system.
At least the loudest politicians there will have to go back to shoveling dung like their ancestors did before the British came.

wolf_howl15 Cast system?

Why would throwing fishing lures be bad?

Oh, you meant the caste system.

I concur. It's still an integral part of India's society.

The cheeky sods, I'm not sure how much they've had over the years but I think they've had enough with out holding their hands out for more.
This Tory government is cutting services right left and centre and meanwhile they're sending billions of pounds overseas, bloody madness.

Indeed mate and made all the more distastefull, when you think we are handing out aid to a country that has its own space and nuclear programmes.

Just buy them off with concessions for glitzy casinos, tax-free cheap cigarettes, fireworks and gas.

Oh wait. I'm thinking of our Indians.

They should pay them with Greek bonds.

I mean hey, I think the point that "India was governed for the benefit of Britain" is pretty inarguable. Where I think one problem is... whose benefit is it governed for now?

I'm not really sure how giving a bunch of money to what's often rightly seen as a corrupt bureaucracy is going to actually solve the injustice.
