Default Let's Talk Grilling Again....

This year we needed a new grill. Most grills that passed over our deck became rusty hulks after one to two seasons. Off to the store to get yet another soon to be rusty hulk this year we tried something different. As of late there is a new kid on the block. He goes by the name, "Big Green Egg." He also has a big price tag. I will not pay $800.00 for one of these grills.

I will pay $300.00 for the Akorn:

Since purchasing this grill I have found a new love in grilling. I do not use gas anymore. I now use hardwood charcoal. It is a pleasure to cook with. The Akorn is also a pleasure to use. Keeping a consistent temp for hours is easily done. Something you want when cooking ribs. After the experience with this new grill I will not go back to the conventional open top gas grills.

Grill on.

Yours is more esthetically pleasing but I kept a stand-alone WEBER wedding gift going for 20 years till it croaked utterly; the wife and daughter got me this BBY with a little more work space and all the tools with propane start. Thrown in: the Grill Daddy for those clean ups Already hosted my bother wedding reception picnic for 30 people with this baby!

I've had this grill for three seasons now, a Char-Griller 3 propane burner. I made sure to season the grill before use, got a cover for it and not one problem with rust.

Grilled a some chicken breasts with fresh mango salsa today.

wolf_howl15 Don't need no fancy grill...

All you need is fire and sticks for the hot dogs to keep your guests AKA moochers busy while you get baked in the basement.

But, but Wolferz, how do we grill these steaks?

BAH! I can't eat steak at present and I'm not gonna waste my money buyin em for anyone else.

This looks similar to mine...

If the weather stays fine for a month or so I'll be after the bigger version...

Weber has been around a long time. Great grills.

The Akorn is made by Chargriller. I love mine. Great product!

Nice gas grill Jim. I'm leery of the gas grills. I find the burners rust quickly. However, there are plenty of replacement parts. I cooked with gas grills for quite some time. Went back to charcoal. I like the flavor and it reminds me of being a kid smelling the grills in the neighborhood that burned charcoal.

Weber and charcoal; that's my ideal combination.

When we are staying on a campground we use this little bbq:

It's a cobb.

The "<Edit>Cobb-stone</Edit> Cobble-stone" burns for several hours.

I have never seen a cobb-stone. Interesting. Does it perform like charcoal?

It doesn't has the typical charcoal smell.
It burns approx 3 hours and the heat is very intense.
For camping it's OK, but at home I prefer a real bbq with charcoal.

I picked up one of these last summer (mine has a wooden shelf on the front as well) and have been very happy with it. Charcoal cooker, cast iron grill and you can get a smoker that attaches to the side. For the price it was a bargain.

I've been using the typical Weber grills seems like forever and have no desire to use gas except for lighting coals, white gas that is. I just pour about half a cup on, toss in a match and come back in five minutes or so when the coals are ready. No fanning, no going out, and no smell of diesel fuel from lighting fluid!

Dangerous? Not really but it does make a fireball and a nice little whump sound.

Got rid of the Gas grills. Found that my drinking time was greatly reduced with them and I'd actually have to cook.
Charcoal has changed all that.

This is the way I was brought up. Can of fluid and coals. I find the coals get very hot and there is a lot of ashes left over. The hardwood burns completely with very little ash left. Plus the heat is easily controlled with the vents.
