Excellent series! I manage to pick up something new with each one.

Unlike many other educational and tutorial SH5 uploads that have been repeated and edited until the desired result is perfect and executed by a "Uber" Captain, Schaefer's videos, uploaded "warts and all" are educational as well as entertaining!

Keep up the great work!!

Thank you for the kind words.

I agree, Kevin.

I think Shaefer under estimates the value of his series as Tutorials to gamers of all levels.

We not only learn from him but also from the advice coming back from Subsim and YouTube.

In episode 10 Shaefer is seen entering Helgoland where you can only refit.

I am I right in thinking that he would have to go to Wilhelmshaven and End Patrol to repair the hull damage?

Peter

I suppose it depends on how much unrepairable damage you are prepared to carry when you continue the patrol.

If I can maintain periscope depth without sinking and the analogue gauges are still working, I will usually resupply at the nearest friendly port and head back out rather than return to base.

Especially if it is a long way to and from the assigned patrol area. Those patrols on the west coast of Britain, south of the Outer Hebrides, are a long way from Wilhelmshaven!

Cannot wait for the next one . If you are at all stop you can rest on the bottom by clicking on the dive button . You might sometimes get small damage if the bottom is rocky or uneven . You take your chances , I have escaped DDs this way quite a few times . Scapa is shallow so detection means certain death . I have found with SH5 every new career restart gives different scenarios . I have found scapa easy and then on another reload difficult or impossible . Do you want to sink that battleship and risk your mens lives or sneak away . Do you fire from long distance in the fog using the hydro to set torp direction . What about the CO2 . What is your escape route ?

Shaefer,

You must stop putting these videos up, my wife is threatening a divorce, my twin daughters think I have lost my mind (yelling at the comp. screen as I watch), and quite honestly I can't wait for the next one!!!

But as Jimbuna would put it.......... Sink Em' All!!

Many options, lots of things to consider, lots of things can go wrong. Will Scapa be the final resting place for good old U-21...

Get the wife in on it, the twins to. Equals no more domestic unrest.
On second thought, I'm struggling to keep this family friendly with my foul language, so no twins.

Would anybody using the "TWoS" mod be able to post a player save game (complete folder..@ 15 Mb) of the "Breaking The Fortress" mission just prior to entering Scapa Flow?

I would like to try adding some waypoints etc for the Destroyers around the Capital ships to make them become aggressive and therefore the mission more challenging. Unfortunately I have deleted all of my save games for this mission and I don't wish to restart a the entire campaign again.

Any help would be much appreciated!

G'day Shaefer,

Regarding the CO2, it builds up about 10X faster than it should according to the gauges. CO2 shouldn't be a problem until the bar gauge on the UI reaches 100%. When the CO2 level reaches 100% (36 to 40 hours submerged) everyone will die.

One day I'll stumble across the file that controls the CO2 rate of change for the gauges and put a decimal point in front of the 1.0 value!!

Hey Shaefer.

What was that you said when you began this series that you were going to take us through to the end of war.

Worried about another wreck?

Having a nervous one.

Now you tell us dead is dead!

Hey Peter!

1: I stand by my word. I will make it to the end of the war.... without dying.

2: Absolutely not!

3: Nope...

4: Tell that to people whom die in this game.....

Making the end of the war is not difficult if you keep reloading, making mistakes right, doing so without dying is very hard.
