Darkfish and myself tried getting planes to launch from a carrier, but sadly failed. AFAIK it's not possible with the SH4 game engine.

i had an idea for making a playable carrier.


You can 'fire' airplanes with your UZO. These planes can be loaded like torpedoes and in the campaign loadout menu you can load up different types of planes, torpedo bombers, dive bombers etc. Your aircraft carrier has only a very weak anti ship defence and has to be escorted by ships.

In the german campaign you go up in ranks and eventually call in task forces.
so if you play the campaign you start off with a group of destroyers guarding you, on the 2nd rank you get a destroyer fleet with a cruiser guarding you and so on until you get a whole taskforce with battleships and all guarding you.

You can call in recon planes through carrying an airfield with you and attack enemy ships with your planes through the UZO.
and it will look like your planes take off from your flight deck because you place the torpedo tubes on the flight deck.

I did some testing with particle effects ;launching plans from both guns and torpedoes and IIRC, this caused CTD. Firing a torpedo which works like a missile (which the modern sub modders have been doing successfully for cruise missiles and the like) is possible, but what we are looking to do is launch an object which then activates the AI plane controller and whatever I tried to make that happen caused CTD's. There were a couple of other ways I thought of doing it (by embedding the AI controller in the torpedoe.dat file, but that caused CTD when launching the game, even before launching a mission. I really don't think this can be done.

Well, i never that this thread still exists, ehehe, well neways, only now that im back on playing SH4, and thanks to chrysanthos for those "charity" ships, weheheh

my opinion on the "launching-planes-on-carrier"<-- lots of modders did "try" to make one and...... its terrible, in any sense, as much as we would see a "functionable" carrier, well thats a JOY to everyone.....

for the "pocket BB", lots of fun with, so maybe..... and again, i could ask with permission for your "merchant" collection, thanks a many
