Default Submerged again

Hi guys,
I was off for 4 years of the SH3 world. I can't believe it is 9 years from joining this great forum...

My question is simple but I'm afraid the answer is not
I want to start playing GWX mod becaue of the old times. Now it comes: what other mods should I add?
There is too much new stuff (and that's great). Modded SH3.exe (wow), widescreen mods, new enviroments, GFX etc. I have to admitt I don't have enough time to read all the related posts.
So please can you give me some advice what to add to GWX to get maximum from SH3?

Current config: old XP machine (Athlon 2600+, 2GB RAM, ATI 1950GT), widescreen LCD

Welcome back!

The best answer I can think of is don't add anything until you've had a good think about what you want in your game. I have many dozens of aftermarket mods, but each one does a specific thing that I want to see. Not one of them is absolutely necessary. If you have any questions on what specific mods do, please ask.

One thing you should have that is not a mod at all: SH3 Commander. It does for your career what the supermods do for your game.

Hi geralt

My set up is Silent Hunter 3 + GWX3.0 + SH3 Commander + GWX3 files for SH3 Commander.

GWX comes with a selection of 18 mods and I am only using 3 of them.

GWX - 16km Atmosphere

GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects

GWX - No Medals on Crew

Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final < highly recommended mod if you use this resolution.

If you have the time to read them, both GWX and SH3 Commander come with excellent instruction manuals and will tell you all you need to know.

It is essential for the installation of the 3 additions that they are installed correctly over a fresh SH3 installation.

Don't forget to include the cfg file for Commander when using GWX:

Thank you guys for all the kind words. This community is the best I know.

I remember SH3 Commander, also the GWX built in options/mods.

I need to solve the widescreen compatibility. Not sure my rig can run 1920x1080. Any "low res" widescreen mod here? (1200x800, 1600x900)

I'd like some eye-candy mods to make the SH3 world more attractive. Some nice enviroment, clouds, waves etc. Is it possible to improve the submarine interior (open hatch mod?) for GWX?

Definitely wolfpacks, more messages from BdU...

Improve the interior? FlakMonkey's New Interiors mod incorporates the Open Hatch mod and gives you a full interior to walk through, at least for the Type VII. The only thing missing at this point is the aft torpedo room. It's not exactly necessary but if you have the computer to run it it's pretty spectacular.

NEW VERSION OF IXB&IXC mod made by Wise. They are basically improved models of the stock SH3 IX models.

I want to let you know I didn't give up. I'm in silent mode struggling when trying to merge some mods overwriting same files.
Found some new great stuff since my last visit here... lots of it. BIG thank you to all modders.

Welcome back, mate!

Same with me, just one week earlier! Got totally overwhelmed by all the new stuff, unbelievable what huge amount of work the modders did. I am still in the phase of calculating what mod and which widescreen patch asf. But i will get new hardware equipment soon, so i thougt i take my time to get familiar with all the new stuff at first, and realize it lateron at my new rig.

I hope you have a proper navigation officer aboard who can find a way home after diving through all the depths of new stuff here! I am still lost after one week of investigation, and confusion still seems to get worse from day to day...
