Yeah, that's really the only way to do it. Especially if you have a bunch of stations over the whole 1000 channel range.
To answer the original question, no there is no way to directly go to a channel in the game. As for the second question, you might want to look at this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...do=file&id=697 It might be a little better. I don't know of any other radio image mod.
