Because old farts run countries and old farts still live in old fart days when cannabis was considered a dangerous drug and alcohol simple evening entertainment.

I've been high and I've been drunk in my life and being high is safer than being sober. You just sit back and laugh and not one neuron is being used to think about doing something stupid and dangerous. Being drunk, well, let's not go there. A very sad set of circumstances, made even worse by the fact the father is barred from seeing his child.

The cynical side of me noted this last line of the article

“This has the potential to be a real election issue.”

Playing politics with a sick child's health is the lowest, lowest form of humanity imaginable.

I do have sympathies for the father and best wishes that his daughter gets well. If I were in the same position he's in, I may do the same thing.
The issue is that how well has the cannabis oil been tested and studied for effectiveness, for side effects, effective dosages, etc. Since it's apparently an illegal substance, how is it made? There is no quality control, no control on the manufacturing process, no control on hygiene during manufacturing.
