You're absolutely right, STEED.
But look at it from this angle.

Studies keep scientists busy with their hobbies and lead to reports; reports make research institutes famous; famous institutes can attract money for studies; studies keep scientists busy with their hobbies and lead to reports; reports make research institutes famous; famous institutes can attract money for studies; studies scientists hobbies reports research institutes money etc.

Perhaps this should be the subject of a study by a renowned expert.
Me for instance, just give me a budget and I'll start hobbying...

I'm reminiscing that scene in Woody Allen's movie Sleeper, where he's defrosted back to life 100's of years into the future, attends a private coctail party of medical professionals and is told that the study of doctors so-and-so in 2300 and something clearly proved there's no link between cholesterol and heart disease.

Woody immediately starts grabbing as many whipped cream desserts as he can hold from the nearest serving tray. :rotfl:

Don't blame the scientists, blame the media. Scientists will usually come up with something like "There might be signs of correlation between the ingestion of Omega-3 fats and so and so with the metabolisation of protein GB 4 25".

The institution's PR dept say "Omega 3 might help reduce cholesterol!"

And the journalist go "Fish is good for you!"

...Of course, that's a simplified diagram, but essentially, that's the thing. Mass reporting is done for six years old, remember...

Some things are certainlly bad for you.

Other things are uncertain.

But for the most part, everything is bad in excess, and many things are good in the right (usually reduced) amount.

But hey isn't doing things you aren't supposed to fun?

So we have lots of things to rebel against, depending on which direction the winds are blowing at the time.....

Fashionab;e rebelling..yay...

All bollocks if you ask me. Pregnant women aren't supposed to eat more than one tin of tuna a week. My wife was eating two or three some weeks and my little boy is just fine....

Not so little either...will have to post some new pics.
