Yes but not US side ... there a WW1 german uboats mod in progress, see sticky at the top of this page.

Frank continues to develop some stuff for realism as RFB addóns, see the improved ship physics theads.

Sadly, modding never caught on quite as well for SH4 as it did for SH3 and 5. For some reason, the u-boats seem to have a much bigger following. (Maybe we need an epic fleet boat movie to drive up interest?)

In SH3 I think there aren´t subsimmers using only a megamod. All use GWX, or LSH3, or WAC, or NYGM, and add other complementary mods. The same with SH4, except there aren´t many complementary mods. Mainly, there was very little work in "candy eye" in scenarios; the bases are not so detailed as in SH3 and the equivalent of Merchant Fleet mod for SH3 never see the light for SH4 (the Japanese Merchant Marine mod).

had plans on doing one just trying to wrap my head aroun stuff on modding

Very true my mod list is pretty short compared to my sh3 list.
