Savings of up to £1m are to be protected under new proposals from the Bank of England aimed at avoiding a Northern Rock style run on a bank.

Only money temporarily deposited in a bank, because of a house sale or an inheritance, for example, will be protected for a period of six months.

Under current rules a maximum of £85,000 is protected.

The new rules are due to come into force by July next year.

Last minute attempts to differentiate themselves from the Conservatives before the elections. Doomed to fail I'm afraid, all people are going to remember the Lib Dims (that was a typo...but I think it's so good I'm not going to change it) for are breaking their promises on university fees, bending over for the Tories and failing to deliver on just about everything they vowed on.

The only way they could possibly hope to gain any votes next election is for Clegg to resign and for someone outside of the current power block to be placed as leader. So not Cable or any of the current Lib Dim line-up in power, it'd have to be someone who hasn't been tainted by the ConDems, and someone who is prepared to push his or hers weight around.

Unfortunately, I think the party who are going to be the King-makers of the 2015 election are going to be UKIP, I just have absolutely terrifying visions of a Con-UKIP alliance after a hung parliament.

Still, time will tell.

Hopefully the LibDums will lose around 40 seats and 100s of deposits

And as for UKIP they are more Tory than the Tories.

I must admit after watching Cleggs speech, I thought he did a fair job at trying to get himself out of the hole he currently finds himself and his party in.

And that by election result in Heywood and Middleton was too close for comfort with Labour holding the seat with vastly reduced majority of just 617 from the new Tory party that are know as UKIP.

The Tories & labour sayings are so out of touch.

Vote UKIP get a labour government

Seems only Cleggs lot have not said this so far.
