Nearly always is a bit strong.
Some of the films i linked have ww2 themed material.

A film, be it short or full-length with ww2 material will always be easily marketable.

Unless of course you are a big shot director and don't need to use popular marketing material (ww2 flavour) to sell or promote your skills.

The notion of sci-fi being only about futuristic war fare, if that is what the film is about in the first place, is misguided.

WW2 themes in films serve their purpose very well.
The fascination and intrigue of ww2 themed films will never die out.

Certainly more popular than a sci fi with green little men.

And...more believable.

And heck, a sci fi, like some of those linked, with a ww2 element to them are pretty darn awesome imo.
