Split on this....one part of me thinks the sentence a little harsh and the other reminds me what I've learned in life about people being made accountable for the consequences of their actions.

Lets not forget though, sooner or later he will be up for parole. And he will likely be paroled and released.

I doubt if he will serve seven years of the sentence

nope, every time they do a false raid there is a good chance someone can be shot or killed (resident or police) so in effect this kid was loading a gun and playing Russian roulette with other peoples lives in the name of FUN.

he is no different then those kids who threw a big rock off the overpass into an oncoming cars windshield and killed a mother driving with her husband and kid and the kid saw his moms brains out all over the seat.

stop looking at the image or impression of what you think the image of the criminal is and look at the victims and their families when fun and games gets people killed.

this doesn't matter anyway because they are sending a message and in a year or two they will reduce his sentence to time served and he will only do about 2 years of actual jail time I bet

After all that's been said here, I only have one problem with the current prison system. I just hope he doesn't get a Masters degree in crime while at Crime University. Otherwise he'll become hopelessly entangled in a vicious closed loop.

Yes sir, just what we need... another criminal trapped in the Merry-go-Round. It might straighten him out and then again it might make him worse.

Only three types of federal prisoners can get parole

1. If they committed their crimes prior to 1988. Conviction date does not apply.

2. If they committed their crime in Washington, DC regardless of date.

3. If they are Military prisoners.

http://www.uscourts.gov/News/TheThir...on_System.aspx

The appropriate legislation is The Sentencing Reform Act 1987

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentencing_Reform_Act

There are isolated instances of Early Release from Federal Prison, but that is not the same as Parole.

Nice to know the politicians are always thinking about their future.

I think in this instance the sentence was correct, as Stealhead pointed out, he probably won't serve all of it anyway, and his actions resulted in a man being shot. I would love to say, though, that this sort of sentencing would discourage the action of 'Swatting' however knowing the youth of today (oh dear God, I've finally reached the age where I can say that...) it probably will just encourage them.

I doubt that he will serve the entire sentence. Why do I feel compelled to post this?

Apparently the verdict delivered by Subsim 'Supremest' Court has to be undone.

Yes, it is a fake story. The kid, who's photo has been shown is actually Dylan Schumaker:
