v1.5 I assume fixes the problems in v1.4

The difficulty will depend on what mods you are using.

Try 'Hard' and adjust your game play settings if you are playing 'Stock or
GFO

You will need to start a new career, then change your game play settings.

In the early part of the war torpedoes were extremely unreliable and would often run deep.

I am sure others will chip in and give their views that will give you something to think about.

Please excuse my ignorance, but could you please explain the terms "Mods", "Stock", "GFO", and "TMO"?

Sorry, but I don't know much about some of the terminology that gets thrown around on here.

If it helps, I am playing the stock standard version that I brought at the shop. The only added extra is the version 1.4 patch.

Hi Major

Because your version is v1.4 you will be limited to the mods that you can use.

However stock is no fun and to be honest I would say boring as hell.

I would suggest you get the Silent Hunter 4 DVD Gold Edition that adds additional single u-boat campaigns but importantly is the last and latest v1.5 version.

This means that the bugs you have in your v1.4 will have been removed in the v1.5 hopefully.

Most mods are written for v1.5

If you stay with v1.4 make sure that any mods you go for are for that version and not just v1.5

A mod is an addition to make your game more enjoyable and will often fix bugs and glitches.

I suggest you go to the ‘Download Tab.’

Select the ‘Silent Hunter 4.’

You will see the various categories that are available, and the mods inside.

You have to bear in mind that not everything is compatible with one another.

Stock often called ‘Vanilla’ (no flavour) has no additions or amendments, so what you see is what you get, bugs, plenty of, glitches, warts and all.

Webster’s GFO takes the stock game up a notch and personally I think it is a very good way for the beginner to get in to the game.

There are plenty of compatible mods that go well with this especially Webster’s own.

TMO (Trigger Maru Overhauled v2.5) takes you to a much higher level of immersion.

As I play RFB there will be others who play this and will be able to give a better account of what you can add to this than I can.

This is for the experienced player and for the beginner this may be a step to far.

There is also RSRDC (Run Silent Run Deep Campaign)

This mod almost totally rewrites the stock version and can be used with GFO and RFB.

I am relative newcomer to SH4 been playing SH5 so as I said there are some good people out there who know a lot more about this than I do.
