It sounds like a fun game, but my concern is that it's not going to be a simulator anymore, because it's not simulating any particular experience at that point - those kinds of ops were a very rare exception to begin with (the Makin Island operation being a bright example), but there's also the fact that there's no real role overlap there - commandos on a submarine are passengers and have no bearing on it's operations, and the sub's crew and officers have nothing to do with the raid other than delivery and pickup. I'm not sure I like this blending of roles, and from the historical perspective, a game about this isn't really doing justice to the reality of either submarine warfare or commando operations - instead it becomes an action game that just happens to feature both.

There's also the game side of it - nobody quite got the sub sim thing right yet, and a good first person tactical combat game is hard to make. Putting the two together sounds like fun, but also creates a lot more things that could go wrong. Pairing a good shooter with a poor naval game, even, wouldn't do much good. At the same time, development complexity skyrockets. And why? The audience for a faithful naval sim is small, and many of us would probably be turned off by a game that compromises realism to create more action.

I think this is something that would work better in a fictional setting or as just an action game. I'd love to see a BIA-type game with dynamic missions and vehicles. Or a space combat game where historical accuracy isn't a problem. But I don't think the result would be good for either side if it's blended with a historical naval sim. For me personally, I pay Silent Hunter games because I want to get as close as I can to experiencing the way submarine warfare really was, not because I like seeing things blow up in as many cool ways as I can. Again, I like a fun game as much as the next guy, but I really don't think this type of game would do very much for me as Silent Hunter goes.
