Good question, I like war patrols, but a good 2 or 3 subs vs 6+ dd's as all human players was a challenge. For everyone. Silent Hunter 2 and Destroyer Commander. Even a 1 on 1 was good fun.

In SH4 I would suggest going into Japanese home waters. Try not to kill the destroyers, AVOID THEM, and other escorts as they are worthless, unless it's a matter of life or death. Even if you've become skilled at killing escorts and patrol ships, avoid it. Go for the tonnage and the big warships. That is more challenging when you have the DD's swarming around like wasps. Learn how to evade.
