Not installing the game in to the default location in "Program Files" could be such a special protocol. But that is not because of Windows 8, but because UAC gets in the way (started with Vista). Provide your own installation path like c:\games\SilentHunter3.
Same goes for SH3 Commander, or any other game that might end up being modded one day. |
