She was swimming with a group of people early on Thursday morning, but had turned back from the group and was on her own when she was attacked, police said.

Mrs Armstrong's family said in a statement that she had been swimming at Tathra Beach for 14 years.

I don't know for the Southern Hemisphere, but Northern, Sept-November is when whitey is active hunting seals. Surf at your own peril.

Luckily, we generally only get Basking Sharks up here, though Porbeagles have been sighted.

If you can guarantee a quick and clean death then I'd like to go out via nature, seems better to be food for a greater animal than shoved in the ground for near eternity, or being burned and polluting the atmosphere.

Herein is a common problem with many folks way of thinking, that "It", in whatever context you want to assign to the word, "only happens to other people".

True. You can't live your whole life in fear, but you can't go around thinking your special either. It's about weighing the likelihood and severity of the risks with the rewards. Some things are worth a risk, others are not.

edit: Personally, if I had a choice of swimming on a beach that is known to have sharks, or going to a swimming pool, Ill go to the damn swimming pool. Getting sand up the crack of my ass isn't worth it to me.

And look at me. I spent half my life going into burning buildings, willingly. My wife and son kept saying there was something wrong with me.
